Song dynasty poet Lu You in Thought for My Son Ziyu While Reading on A Winter Night notes that ¡°knowledge acquired on paper ultimately seems shallow still; to thoroughly understand this, one must personally experience it all.¡± Recently, after negotiating with the power plant management department£¬ a decision has been made that under the instruction and supervision of our operator, owner¡¯s trainees are required to complete the planned shutdown operation, which aims to check the training effects and test their mastery level of the power plant equipment and DCS operation interface.

Safety and technical disclosure before real practice

At 9 am on that day, the ¡°safety and technical disclosure¡± to all trainees was organized by us in central control room. Considering the personal skill level of trainees, 5 excellent trainees (one gas turbine operator, two boiler operators and two turbine operators) were given priority to operate the unit independently and others were required to watch and learn.

Owner¡¯s trainees are operating under our supervision

At 9:30, after receiving the order from local power grid dispatching, trainees began to execute unit shutdown command step by step under our instruction and supervision. Gas turbine load dropped down and unit worked normally; steam turbine load began to drop down and unit vibration, axial displacement and water level of condenser and steam drum were closely supervised; turbine speed was closely supervised and turning gearing device was put into service after MSV and GV close and steam turbine shutdown; gas turbine dropped to minimum, shutdown program was executed, generator was disconnected, gas system was stopped, gas turbine flamed out, gas turbine speed was closely supervised and turning gear device was put into service; HRSG and auxiliary system were shut down gradually. During the shutdown process, under our technical instruction and precaution explanation, trainees had a good cooperation with each other and finally successfully completed the shutdown operation in good order.

This independent real practice greatly improved the skill level of trainees and also created a favorable for the early competency of the production post in the power station and independent work. In the next step, we will conduct targeted training for the technical short board and weak link existing in this shutdown operation, and help the trainees to accumulate working experience and improve the professional skill level.
