National Water Conservancy Department Minister of Cameroon Visiting Mekin Hydropower Station Again
Issued Time :2019-05-28 10:35:28

At 10 am on May 24th,2019, Cameroon National Water Conservancy department minister Mr. Eloundou. Essomba. Gaston  visited (MEKIN) hydropower station and witnessed the restoration of the hydropower station and the formal external supply of electricity. Officials from the Ministry of Cameroon National Water Conservancy and related ministries, general manager of the owner Mekin hydropower development company Biyamoto and news media, nearly 100 people accompanied the visit. This was the second visit by the minister to the power station after he had inspected the preparation of the power transmission at the power station a month ago. The main purpose was to verify whether the power station units and NY substation had safe, stable and reliable power supply capacity!

Mekin hydropower station is a cooperative project under the framework agreement of friendship between the governments of China and Cameroon, which is the fourth hydropower station  into operation in Cameroon since its founding. The plant is located in the southern region of Cameroon,  Meyomessala City, Dja-et-Lobo Province, and it is also the hometown of Cameroon's current President, Mr. Paul Biya. The plant has a total installed capacity of 15MW (3x5MW), with an average annual utilization hours of 5085 hours, and an annual designed generating capacity of 72.68 million KWH. The power station has been put into operation since December 2015. However, due to the weakness of the local power grid system (many power lines fail to operate steadily), the limited capacity of the Cameroonian staff, equipment damage and other causes, the generator sets of the power station have been idle for a long time, and the economic benefits of power generation cannot be brought into play. Cameroon power station owners urgently need a professional hydropower operation and maintenance technical team to help them restore the normal operation of the power station, and to train Cameroonian personnel to carry out normal power production.

The. Minister first inspected the NY substation of the power station and inspected the 110KV and 30KV lines of the substation and the operating conditions of the transformer and distribution equipment on site. Then he came to the central control room to have a thorough inspection  of the load, voltage, frequency and system power flow and other power parameters of the  two units. Next, the Minister went to  observe the working condition of the main and auxiliary power equipment of two sets of generating units, shook hands with O&M Power staff kindly and asked about relevant technical questions in detail. When he saw the project manager who was busy at the scene, Mr. Minister affectionately said: "Vieil ami,se revoir!"(French: old friend, see you  again!) .The  project manager reported to Mr. Minister the current operating conditions of the unit and the specific situation of on-site operation maintenance supervision and guidance and on-the ¨Cjob training. Mr. Minister expressed his great satisfaction and praised O&M Power staff for their excellent work!

In the following work meeting, the minister praised the Chinese operation and maintenance team in public for their outstanding contributions to the Mekin hydropower station. Today, all the government officials and media friends present here have seen the success of the restoration of the power station. The load, voltage, frequency and other indicators are stable, and the residents have enjoyed the clean and efficient power energy from the Mekin hydropower station, which has benefited the people of Cameroon. In addition, the minister also required to arrange the owner's staff to receive professional electric power skill training in China as soon as possible.

The visit of the Minister again greatly encouraged the on-site employees of O&M Power project department. They expressed  that they would make achievements at their own posts and provide high-quality technical services for the owners of electric power operation and maintenance, and satisfy the contractor  to let the O&M Power be  assured. They would ensure the safe and stable operation of the power  station for a long period, provide a steady stream of green and clean energy for the people of Cameroon!
